The death of French visionary Karl Lagerfeld just shy of Paris fashion’s biggest week of the year shook the industry, and one by one his fellow designers are paying tribute.
Postcards printed with Lagerfeld’s most memorable collections were placed on seats at Chloé’s Fall/Winter 2019 show, each featuring various quotes from the creative director, who spent 25 years designing for the iconic fashion house. The collection was a nod to his tenure and the 1970s, with recurring elements of the decade (see: flared coats, deep-necked, billowed-sleeve dresses, and a lot of tan leather). An azure satin bomber with fur accents stole the show, reminding viewers of the utilitarian femininity Chloé—and Lagerfeld—does best.
Knocking each look out of the park, designer Natacha Ramsay-Levi was nothing if not a perfectionist in her commitment to polish: She styled everything from denim jumpsuits to plaid suits to flowing cocktail dresses (perfect for your next foray into fondue) with penny loafer-inspired mid-heel boots. There’s no one quite like Ramsay-Levi to deliver Nancy Drew-chic, and you can bet fast fashion will have taken more than a few notes by the time September rolls around.
