Kim Kardashian West Is Designing An Affordable Line Of Sunglasses

Ever since receiving Kanye West’s memo in January 2018 that big shades were out, Kim Kardashian West has clearly had sunglasses on the brain. In an interview with Vogue on Wednesday, she announced an upcoming collaboration with Israeli eyewear brand Carolina Lemke.

Back in September, it was reported that Kardashian West would be the spokesmodel for a global launch of the brand, but it looks like the collaboration actually includes a full-fledged collection. The best part? Each pair will be under $100.

“It’s a little crazy how expensive designer sunglasses can get,” she told Vogue. “Especially if you lose your sunglasses a lot, or if you tend to break them or scratch them. I felt like the quality [of these sunglasses] was so high-level, and the price point was really reasonable, and I really liked how open they were to different design ideas.”

Apparently, Kardashian West was introduced to the sunglasses label via her friend model Bar Refaeli, who is part owner of the company and one of its faces. It was when Kardashian West met the owners over dinner that the idea of a collaboration was introduced. Now, the reality star is a partner in the company and designing the new line of sunglasses “from scratch,” deciding on “materials, colors, lens finishes, and packaging.”

And, in case you’re wondering, they won’t be all tiny sunglasses (sorry, Kanye!). Kardashian West described a range, “from big shield glasses to more sporty glasses and ‘90s shapes.” While the collaboration seems a little out of the blue, she is a shade connoisseur, from the cycling pair she wore at Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2019 menswear show to orange-tinted athletic glasses.

The sunglasses will be on sale starting April 3 on carolinalemke.com, and you can get a jumpstart on shielding yourself from the sun Kim K-style by reserving a pair through a pre-sale at the end of March.
