Lady Gaga Gave Us a Preview of Hedi Slimane’s Céline

In a trifecta of true art, Lady Gaga gave us a preview of Hedi Slimane’s new Céline bag in front of the Mona Lisa to top it off.

Gaga is currently a fashion tour de force in Paris right now, from her DayGlo-orange House of CB dress to the aforementioned new Slimane bag, which is even monogrammed with her L.G. initials. The singer and the designer are longtime friends, with Slimane photographing Gaga for her Fame Monster album cover and Gaga debuting the designer’s straight-off-the-runway pieces for Saint Laurent.

The bag is minimal yet sturdy — all-black and barely-there hardware. In February, it was announced that Phoebe Philo was stepping down from the French fashion house and being replaced by Slimane as creative director. Some people questioned whether it was the right move for a label that Philo tailored toward the everyday woman’s wardrobe. As Landon Peoples of Refinery29 wrote:

Sure, Slimane’s glam rock collections for Saint Laurent have earned him enough clout to be recruited for his next great venture. But at a time when the map to a more empowering and realistic approach to fashion is being redrawn, what place will the working women Philo strived so hard to cater to have in Slimane’s vision?

In the meantime, Lady Gaga’s glamorous fashion vision for her Paris trip was very well-documented. She paired the new Céline bag with an AW91 Azzedine Alaïa coat and, on Tuesday, wore a metallic blue Nicolas Jebran jacket with a slime-green sports bra and belt cinched at the waist.

The new bag was a fun teaser of what’s to come at Slimane’s Céline Spring/Summer 19 show on February 28.
