Mecca James-Williams is a New York based stylist, creative, and fashion writer who has worked with countless brands and publications, from Opening Ceremony to Vogue. The perks of all this experience? Her personal style game is next-level (no surprise!). Below, we talk to James-Williams about shopping intentionally, the labels she’s currently obsessed with, and the three-word style mantra we should all adopt.
Where do you live?
Mecca James-Williams: “I live in a white brownstone in the heart of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn (the dream!).”
Where are your favorite places to shop?
MJW: “I love a strong mixture of luxury, vintage, and cool up-and-coming brands. For shopping luxury, I tend to shop online—Farfetch and SSENSE are my go-to’s. I’ve also recently developed a huge knack for eBay, which used to be too much of a gamble for me. For my in-person shopping experience, I love small atmospheres and stores that really create a vibe and culture for customers. In Brooklyn, places like The Break and 10ft Single by Stella Dallas do that very well, vintage-wise.
“In general, I’m a very emotional shopper. I either see something via Instagram or in a store front and simply have to have it immediately. Right now, I’m trying to be intentional about where I shop; supporting local businesses and community-building is very important for me. Stores like Moshood and Sincerely Tommy are in my neighborhood, so I try to venture in them a bit.
What brands are you loving right now?
MJW: “Jacquemus, Marni, and Acne Studios are on heavy wishlist and quick-buy rotation. I love Jacquemus for its silhouettes, Marni for its rich colors, and Acne Studios for everyday structure and cool.”
What are your go-to outfit essentials?
MJW: “Jeans with edge, statement jewelry, and a badass shoe!”
Tell us your style philosophy.
MJW: “Crazy, sexy, and cool!”
