Opening Ceremony Closed Out Fashion Month With a Giant Disneyland Party

Opening Ceremony’s Disneyland fashion show just made a LOT of childhood dreams come true. Complete with all of Toontown’s rides open to guests with no lines — along with an endless supply of pizza, ice cream, churros, cotton candy, hot dogs, and more — Humberto Leon and Carol Lim pulled out all the stops.

Just to the left of “It’s a Small World,” as one Disneyland staffer was announcing, show attendees were filed into Toontown, Disney’s cartoon-themed section dedicated to Mickey and Minnie Mouse. It might have been closing time for the families visiting the park that day, but the party had just begun for Opening Ceremony. The label debuted its spring collection, as well as a Disney-themed capsule created in honor of Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday.

The Disneyland soirée was celebrity-filled, with faces like Laverne Cox, Chance the Rapper, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph and more. Diplo was stoked to be there — and in a Mickey Mouse hat nonetheless. “It’s the squad,” he told Vanity Fair. “We love them,” speaking about Leon and Lim.

The show was California dreaming, with lots of colorful ‘70s knitwear, platform sneakers and Birkenstocks, and denim. Following that collection came the Disney collaboration, featuring Mickey’s face on everything from waterproof sportswear to printed gowns, mouse ear-shaped cap sleeves and a pretty killer grandpa shoe.

It was the perfect way to close out fashion month with “The Happiest Show on Earth.” Growing up in Southern California, Leon and Lim have been longtime Disney fans, Leon even saying that he designed his own Mickey Mouse bow tie for his senior prom. “Yesterday when we saw the trumpet players [practicing for the show] and them coming to play Mickey’s song, we started crying because it’s such an amazing moment,” Leon said.

The collection also has the special marker of being the first time a collaboration like this has been sold in the park. You can get your Minnie and Mickey fix online on both Opening Ceremony and Disney‘s store.
