What Would A Rihanna Luxury Fashion Label Look Like?

In truly very exciting news, WWD reports that fashion conglomerate LVMH has been secretly meeting with Rihanna to conquer yet another retail realm: high-fashion. If the rumors are true, it would be the first time that LVMH’s CEO Bernard Arnault will launch a brand from scratch since Christian Lacroix in 1987.

In December 2014, Rihanna was named the creative director of Puma, releasing her first clothing line, Fenty Puma by Rihanna, two years later. She launched Fenty Beauty in September 2017, which quickly garnered praise for its unprecedented inclusive shade range. Her lingerie line, Savage x Fenty, followed, disrupting a stagnant industry and challenging longtime retailers like Victoria’s Secret. Basically, Rihanna has the Midas touch, with a canny ability to wear what’s just ahead of and what’s right on-trend, whether it’s head-to-toe snake print or a baggy blazer paired with slime-green.

While there aren’t many details about the line, WWD notes that LVMH had already selected a group of employees from labels like Louis Vuitton and Celine to support Rihanna and her team. As for when it might launch, knowing Rihanna’s knack for dropping collections quickly, it might not be too long—especially considering Fashion Month is just around the corner.

But the real question is, what would a House of Rihanna look like?

Her aesthetic so far can be best described as romance-meets-hot-BMX-racer, which may not necessarily be what a new luxury line is going for. Still, I hope that, in spite of its high-end status, it will maintain the same sense of fun that imbues anything Rih puts out. And with at least two other fashion/beauty projects and a new album dropping sometime this year, she’ll certainly be putting out a lot.

But if there’s anyone to do a hundred things at once and still seem chill AF, it’s Robyn Fenty, of course.
