Rodarte Is Bringing Their Dreamy Designs to Barbie

Rodarte’s newest muse comes in the form of a 11.5 inch, pink-obsessed doll, who you might have guessed, goes by the name of Barbie. Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy announced on Instagram yesterday that they’re the latest designers to partner with the Instagram account @barbiestyle to create designs exclusive to Barbie from their Spring 2018 collection.

“We were very excited as we have always loved Barbie,” Kate Mulleavy told W. Laura added, “”We always loved all of her accessories, especially her shoes. We played with the dolls [growing up] and made fashion collections for them all the time! We even created runway shows with our Barbie dolls.”

The designs are scaled-down, one-of-a-kind versions of looks from Rodarte’s SS18 collection presented in Paris. Even better: The dolls are from Barbie’s Fashionista line, which was created by Mattel in 2016 to offer more inclusive, diverse body types.

Unfortunately, Barbie fans won’t be able to purchase the looks – they will exist solely on the @barbiestyle Instagram account. It’s a very fun high/low collab between Rodarte, a label that has designed costumes for Black Swan and had their own exhibit at National Museum of Women in the Arts, and an iconic doll.

“We thought it would be fun to pick styles from our Paris Spring 2018 couture show,” Kate told W. ” We then worked with the Mattel team to choose looks and fabrications that would translate in doll scale. In all honesty, there was not much limitation!”
