One of our favorite new BFF pairs is Serena Williams and Meghan Markle, and according to a new interview, the two have become increasingly closer as they’ve both been thrust into the spotlight.
On Australian news program The Sunday Project, Williams talked about her friendship with Markle. When asked if they give each other advice, the tennis champion said with a laugh that the two had texted each other just that morning.
“We have known each other for a long time, but we really, kind of, are relying on each other a lot recently,” Williams said. She and Markle have weathered their share of drama recently, with Williams’ U.S. Open controversy and the Duchess of Sussex’s issues with her half-sister Samantha Grant and father Thomas Markle.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion also talked about attending the royal wedding.
“To have such a monumental moment in England, nonetheless of all the places, I felt like we were literally watching history,” Williams said. “And I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it’s going to be so historic that ― it’s going to be something that people never forget.”
Serena Williams and Markle reportedly became friends in 2010, and the Duchess watched Williams at Wimbledon this year. Check out a clip of the interview here:
