Break Out the Tie Dye – It’s Back

What’s splotchy, splattered and dizzyingly colorful all over? As it just so happens, the answer is also one of the latest patterns to grace the runways. Guaranteeing a slow creep into everyone’s wardrobes is none other than the humble, ultra-playful tie-dye. It’s true, the print of years past—worn by Woodstock attendees and 90s kids—has resurfaced, this time with a way different nuance than its previous lives.

Take, for example, Proenza Schouler’s bleached button-downs and Stella McCartney’s icy-blue oversize tees paired with slouchy white denim. The subdued colors paired with foundational shapes like that of an everyday blouse result in a combo that’s a far cry from your protesting, hippie vibe of the 70s. That’s not to say you can’t find the super vibrant looks either — Prada’s electric SS19 runway featured acid green andMalibu Barbie pink for those who want to fully embrace the trend. Elevated as it may be, the playful element is still undeniably present.
