Sometimes the weather can’t make up its mind—one day it’s cool and then one day the sun comes out. So you obviously need some kind of jacket to wear. But since you probably already have a plain trench coat, whether it’s a classic Burberry or a simple one from Topshop, chances are you’re sick of same old same old.
That’s why this Sonia Rykiel version is such a breath of fresh air—the crinkled-vinyl texture is still aesthetically clean and chic, but it adds an unexpected, modern element. The cobalt blue tone is just enough color with it still playing as a “neutral,” practically matching anything you already have in your closet. And while it has all these little features that make it a renewed classic, it still has the original trench coat features of a waist belt and wide lapels. At $1,200 it’s a bit steep, but you’ll get plenty of wear out of it as the jacket is unlined, allowing you to wear with layers now when it’s cooler, and over a t-shirt and jeans on warmer days.
