The Freelancer Who Does It All With Great Skin

Very few moments in the day are as bare as the moment you wake up. We each have our own kinks and quirks that help us get out of bed, but few of us are brave enough to share them with the world. Introducing A Cool Morning, a deep dive into the intimate daytime rituals of our coolest friends and beauty innovators.

YouMe Lin seriously does it all—the freelance creative consultant, producer, and editor has founded two websites, acts as ambassador for various brands like Mejuri, Pop and Suki and Naadam, and does this all on top of her philanthropic efforts with Goodwill, Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, and more.

So, when does Lin have any time to take a breather? Like most of us, only in the A.M. Whether she’s taking that rare morning yoga class, or chilling bedside whilst binging on YouTube videos, Lin knows how to spend those spare morning moments pampering herself. Below, we talk to Lin about her rapid-fire beauty routine, skipping cleanser, and more.

Thinking out of the 🥡 #JeffWan

What’s the first thing you do every morning?

“ I tend to lay in bed and watch YouTube but lately, I try to get out of my bed asap so I don’t procrastinate.”

Your morning workout routine?

“I don’t have a fixed routine at the moment as I enjoy trying new workouts and different classes. However, pilates is usually my go-to workout.”

Shower at night, morning, or both?

“It really depends on my work schedule. Showering in the morning is refreshing and gets me ready for the day. When showering at night, I like to play music and light my candles for a relaxing little moment I get to have to myself.”

Daily alarm time? How many times do you hit snooze?

“I usually wake up at around 8am in the morning. Honestly, most of the time, I don’t leave the house until roughly 9:30am. I hit snooze way too many times to count…”

If you’re running late, what’s the one thing you have to do?

“Put on some lip balm!”

Favorite breakfast?

“Anything with eggs or salmon!”

Weirdest morning beauty habit?

“I often skip on using a cleanser in the morning because I have super dry and sensitive skin—I don’t want to overwash my face. Also, I don’t use much makeup at all most days, thus, cleaning my face with just water is adequate for me.”

Tell us your morning hair-care routine.

“I don’t do much with my hair, especially now that it’s quite short. On days when I want to give my hair some extra love, I turn to Ouai Hair Oil and Amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask. I also love using Virtue Labs Recovery shampoo and conditioner if I decide to shower in the morning.”

How much time do you spend on your skincare routine?

“Depending on whether I’m running late or not, it can range from 5 to 15 minutes. But, I’m usually running late so… yeah.”

Go-to products?

“I’m obsessed with Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream, and SKII facial treatment essence. They’re the products that I can always count on and are good for all skin types.”

What’s the one product you could never leave the house without putting on?

“SPF, always! I’m obsessed with anything Supergoop—especially their daily moisturizer and glow stick (that I also use as my highlighter).”

The first word/thing that popped into your head this morning?

“‘What day is it today?’ It’s hard to keep track of the day of the week as a freelancer, as I often work on weekends.”
