Michelle Obama Gave Us a First Look at Her New Memoir

Michelle Obama has shared a first look at her new memoir, Becoming. The former first lady posted the cover on Instagram today, which depicts a beautiful, candid shot of Obama smiling and wearing a white off-the-shoulder blouse.

“I’m thrilled to share with all of you the cover for BECOMING,” wrote the author on Instagram. “The process of writing this book has been so personally meaningful and illuminating for me. As I prepare to share BECOMING this fall, I hope you’ll also think about your own story, and trust that it will help you become whoever you aspire to be. Your story is what you have, what you will always have. It is something to own.”

The book will hit stores Nov. 13 from Penguin Random House imprint Crown. The photographer of Obama’s cover, celeb photographer Miller Mobley, shared the photo on Instagram as well. “Grateful and honored,” he posted. Thank you @michelleobama for trusting me to take your portrait for #BECOMING This shoot will be remembered as one of the most special days in my career.”
Crown said the photo shoot was done earlier this year in Washington D.C., and Obama chose the specific cover photo. Becoming will be published in 25 languages around the world, and the author will read an audio edition as well. Obama will go on a book tour as well, though details of that are forthcoming.
Becoming‘s cover announcement comes on the heels of Barack and Michelle Obama signing a production deal with Netflix to produce a variety of films and series, both scripted and unscripted, with the network.
About the book, Michelle Obama had this to say via Twitter some months ago. “Writing BECOMING has been a deeply personal experience. I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side found her voice. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story.”
