Gone are the days of summer minimalism—at least, in terms of beauty. While the “no makeup”-makeup agenda still stays strong, there’s some new competition that’s adding a sparkle to everyone’s eyes: bold, cool eyeshadows. Don’t believe us? Just take a page out of Kylie Jenner‘s book.
The youngest KarJenner and self-made beauty mogul took to Instagram to show off her latest beach-side photo shoot. But, it wasn’t her toned abs or oversized sun hat that caught our attention: It was, of course, her glitzy green eyeshadow. Was this photo posted solely to make us all green with envy? Nope—it’s just for her latest Kylie Cosmetics summer collection, which includes a brand new eyeshadow palette for you to recreate the look at home (or, at least try to).

Jenner isn’t the only one on this trend: In an unprecedented move, Selena Gomez emerged from her media hiatus to usher in a new trend for 2019’s warmer months: blue eyeshadow.
While we’re not unfamiliar with seeing varying shades of cool on eyelids, blue and green eyeshadows have seemed to be out of mainstream rotation since the latest turn of the century. Appearing at a charity event in April, Gomez appeared in a Dior gown offset with a smudged cat eye in glittery navy blue. Considering the singer-actress generally orientates her makeup towards neutrals and smoky browns, this was a real departure.
But that’s not all. Less than a week later, Gomez wore another seminal makeup look on a second public outing. The next was a mint green-blue, paired with statement-making lashes and casually flicked eyeliner.
If this doesn’t indicate an incoming overhaul of ‘natural’-esque makeup in favor of brighter, funner shades…well, what will, friends. Time to unearth those fun pastel palettes of yesteryear, you’re going to want to try this one out ASAP.
