New York Fashion week is already half way through and it has been a whirlwind! I’ve personally been going from show to show everyday non-stop, and while a lot of it is still blurry there have been a few standout moments that you shouldn’t miss. So to make things easy, we’ve narrowed it down to the top 5 best moments from NYFW so far so you’ll be updated on what’s going on the fashion world even if you don’t have a front row seat.
THE CARDI B VS. NICKI MINAJ DRAMA CONTINUES
So we’ve already given you the long synopsis of their fight here. But industry insiders are saying this was definitely one of the most embarrassing things to happen at a high fashion party like Harper’s Bazaar, and we’re hoping Cardi’s throwing of the shoe doesn’t prevent her from being able to go to more shows. Nicki Minaj on the other hand seems to love the attention, posing outside on the street after the fight and liking Instagrams shading her rival. Hopefully they can work it out, but I’m not seeing a near future resolve to this.
RALPH LAUREN’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY
To put it lightly, the Ralph Lauren show was the most star-studded event of NYFW. From Oprah, Steven Speilberg, Blake Lively, Priyanka Chopra–literally every celebrity you could think of was there. The iconic designer celebrated 50 years of style with Gigi Hadid closing out the show and everyone applauding his inimitable contributions to the fashion world.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO OUTDOES HIMSELF YET AGAIN
Christian Siriano knows how to make a show fun and dramatic even in the dread of cold rain here in New York. He always shows the most diverse group of models, a wide range of clothing from workwear to casual to ball gowns, and his front row celebs are continuously the coolest. From Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Nixon, Tiffany Haddish and Danielle Brooks, it was a show from beginning to end that everyone should have witnessed.
MANSUR GAVRIEL: THE CHICEST OF THEM ALL
I wanted everything at the Mansur Gavriel show. I drank the champagne, I ate the Lauduree macarons, I wanted to know who designed the decor, and I definitely wanted all of the teddy bear faux fur coats that walked down the runway. Mansur’s aesthetic is always so spot on, and even if it’s a bit too feminine for your taste, you have to admit the clothing is incredibly beautiful.
CHROMAT MAKES SAMPLE SIZE EVERY SIZE
Swimwear shows aren’t known for being diverse in casting, so it was incredibly refreshing to see Chromat send models of all shapes, sizes and genders down the runway. And the addition of t-shirts that said “sample size” was a genius move, further proving that inclusivity in fashion is only hard if you make it that way.
