In 2016, when Marc Jacobs, the designer, folded Marc by Marc Jacobs, the price-friendly fashion label, people were outraged. Who would they go to for stylish and affordable wardrobe options in every category? It turns out, niche “Insta-brands” have snapped up this budget-friendly, fashion-conscious customer’s money and attention. But Jacobs is hard at work trying to captivate his old audience with a new brand within the Marc Jacobs label: The Marc Jacobs, like his Instagram handle, WWD notes.
The collection, which will arrive in stores for pre-fall in 2019, is currently under an embargo to the press. This means no images of the collection are publicly available, with the exception of a leaked image from the lookbook. The image, which Jacobs uploaded to his own Instagram account, shows twins wearing striped rugby shirts over baggy pastel-colored pants. “Ugggh,” Jacobs captioned the Instagram of the leaked shot, adding, “consider it a taste of things to come.”
Other details about the collection are scarce, but we also know that Lotta Volkova, a frequent collaborator of Demna Gvasilia’s (from Vetements), styled the lookbook which was shot by Hugo Scott. This is certainly a cast of cool characters, but will it live up to the legacy of Marc by Marc? We will have to wait until the New Year to see, but here’s hoping.
