Cardi B Got Very Real About Childbirth

Cardi B reflected on life as a famous person and as a new mother on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday. She also explained why she wasn’t ready to show her baby to the public right now.

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper talked about the reality of childbirth in response to Kimmel’s question about whether childhood was more or less difficult than she expected.

“Nobody told me they were going to stitch my vagina. People just be like ‘Oh, you know when you give birth, it’s going to hurt,’ but nobody tells you that like…your vagina…” she said as the audience erupted in laughter.

Kimmel responded, “Nobody told you that. I was worried about stepping on a crack and breaking my mother’s back.”

It’s been about three months since Cardi B gave birth to her daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus, and she said her body is still recovering. In spite of the pain, there’s no doubt the 26-year-old is loving mom life.

“It’s the best,” she said. “It’s like ‘Oh my gosh, should have had you when I was a teenager! This is what I’ve been missing my whole life? I love you.’”

Cardi B joked that her baby already has her famous Cardi attitude. “I be like ‘Oh snap, I already see it coming,’ ” she said, joking that the three-month-old is “very demanding.”

It was almost a year since her late-night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live. She talked about life since her meteoric rise to superstardom. “Oh my god it’s crazy,” she said. “It’s only been 12 months, I can’t even believe it.”

For now, Cardi is content to enjoy a normal life – or at least as normal as possible – and enjoy being a mother. “I do need a rest,” she said. “But oh my god. Like the happiness that my baby brought me. I could do this over and over again.”
